Some people say salt is good for you, some people say it is life essential to the human body.
Others say it is bad for you and you should use just a minimum amount or none.
Both are right!
Salt – the word originates from Latin „salus“, meaning „health“. Salt is and was so valuable that once Roman soldiers were not paid in coins but in salt. This is were the word „salary“ comes from.
Found dissolved in the oceans or solid underground, salt consists of more than 80 minerals. The rich salt balances well the minerals needed in our cells and has an alkaline effect to our body. Salt contains sodium, one of the four most important elements for life. The other three are oxygen, water and potassium. The right balance of sodium and potassium is life essential for the cells in our body.
Salt consists of around 30% sodium and 50% chloride. Both are harsh minerals and need all other 80+ minerals of salt to be well balanced for the human body. When sea water or dissolved rock salt is evaporated, the first crystals formed are of sodium and chloride. These crystals are then harvested, heavily processed to remove impurities, minerals etc. and so called „anti-caking agents“ (aluminum silicate) are added to avoid clumping.
The outcome is our table salt.
Table salt consists of inorganic sodium and chloride, a combination that can not be used by the cells of our body in a life contributing way. The consumption of table salt leads to an increase of sodium in our blood and cells start to swell up.
Negative results of consuming table salt are:
Sodium chloride is actually that toxic that it would kill a human body when injected in the blood stream. Where as sea water can be used as blood transfusion for any blood type.
Himalayan pink salt or authentic, natural and unprocessed sea salt (eg. Celtic sea salt), are excellent alternatives to table salt. Both contribute to increase of health and a well balanced level of minerals in your body, especially in your cells, which is essential for the correct functioning of the cell. Natural, unprocessed salt increases hydration of your cells and highly improves absorption of other minerals and trace elements.
Natural, unprocessed salt normalises blood pressure, increases the levels of minerals in your body, improves the sensitivity of your taste buds, has an alkalising effect to your digestive system and the entire body, etc.
The benefits of natural salt are obvious and I hope I could give you a little insight on the topic of salt. Knowingly or unknowingly salt is present in our daly lives and seldomly we pay attention to it. Whenever we eat food in a restaurant or hospital, fast food, packed pre-cooked food or all other industrially processed foods, we consume table salt. As a result it is not easy to eliminate table salt from our lives. But a start could be to buy authentic natural salt and not cheap table salt with all its chemicals for your kitchen at home.
